Climate Change and the Poor: Two Events, One Timely Topic, Next Week in Seattle

Climate change is the major environmental issue in the public arena today, but as we seek to save the planet, are we in danger of harming the poor and vulnerable? If you’re in the Seattle area, join us next week as we explore this question over two events.

Come see a free screening of Blue, a provocative documentary that follows one young man’s journey to challenge accepted orthodoxy in the area of the environment in light of both the empirical evidence and his Christian faith.

The time is Monday, February 23, 7:30-9:00 pm. The place is Seattle Pacific University, Demaray Hall 150, 509 W. Bertona, Seattle, WA. The event is free and no registration is required.

The next day, Tuesday, February 24, 12:00-1:30 pm, join us for a lunch talk and discussion with environmental policy expert E. Calvin Beisner, who will explore the consequences for the poor of some commonly proposed climate change policies and investigate whether those consequences are consistent with an ethical society.

Doors will open at 11:45 am. The location is Discovery Institute, 208 Columbia St., Seattle, WA. This event is free as well, however registration is required as space is limited. Register here now.

Dr. Beisner is the founder and national spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, a network of scientists, economists, theologians, pastors, and other leaders who are interested in both economic development for the poor and wise stewardship of the Earth. An interdisciplinary scholar, Dr. Beisner holds a PhD in history from the University of St. Andrews and has taught courses in history, economics, environmental policy, theology, and ethics as a professor at Covenant College and Knox Theological Seminary.

Much of Dr. Beisner’s work focuses on the intersection between science, economics, theology, and ethics. In the area of climate change policy, he has testified as an expert before Congress, briefed the White House Council on Environmental Policy, and spoken at the Vatican, the International Conference on Climate Change, and many colleges, universities, and seminaries. The author of many books and articles, Dr. Beisner has appeared on the Fox News Channel and MSNBC as well as many other media outlets.
