Pictures from an Exhibition (of Evolution Views)
Actually, from reports by our informants in the room, the views at the Royal Society meeting on “New Trends in Evolutionary Biology” fell short of the exhibition of robust diversity that we expected. The conference is now concluded, but one ID-friendly scientist turned out to be a fiend with his iPhone camera and sent me more photos than I know what to do with.
The problem is privacy. We bend over backward to respect it, owing to concerns that scientists, if outed, will be punished for unorthodoxy. So showing photos of the crowd where you can see faces was not something we’re comfortable doing.
For example, there’s one picture with a young man (possibly young woman?) with a bleached blonde mohawk sitting immediately behind Ann Gauger and listening intently. Clearly, this is not Sir Isaac Newton’s Royal Society anymore. Too bad I can’t show you that one.
In any event, here is a selection of candid and other shots that I can share with you:
Isaac Newton’s death mask.
Stephen Meyer, author of Darwin’s Doubt.
Discovery Institute’s Ann Gauger and her BIO-Complexity co-author Stockholm University mathematician Ola Hössjer.
Panel discussion with (r. to l.) Nancy Cartwright, Douglas Futuyma, Tobias Uller, Marcus Feldman, and Andy Gardner.
James Shapiro, University of Chicago biologist, of “Third Way” fame.
Cool stairway and stained glass window.
Final thoughts on the meeting coming up shortly.
