For the Book-Loving ID Enthusiast in Your Life: Our Christmas Shopping List

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas on its way, it’s time for even the most procrastination-prone among us to start Christmas shopping. The Center for Science & Culture has an array of books, DVDs, and other resources that make great gifts, no matter who you’re shopping for! Below, we’ve compiled our favorite items from this year, along with some of the best resources from past years.

Xmas Revolutionary.jpegRevolutionary: Michael Behe and the Mystery of Molecular Machines is a documentary that both looks back over 20 years of Michael Behe’s extraordinary career and forward to a bright future. Purchase on DVD or Blu-ray and you will also receive a collection of bonus features exploring the science, personalities, and history that have brought the ID movement this far. For more information, visit the extensive companion site, RevolutionaryBehe.com. And if Revolutionary is a hit, go deeper! Behe’s books, Darwin’s Black Box and The Edge of Evolution, are classics that remain relevant to today’s scientific debate over evolution.

Xmas Undeniable.pngWe have released a variety of new scientific books this year that tackle Darwinism, intelligent design, and fine-tuning arguments from different angles. In Undeniable: How Biology Confirms Our Intuition that Life is Designed, Douglas Axe explains why our intuitive understanding of life’s origins is scientifically justified. Clear, accessible, and rigorous, Undeniable is on the must-read list for anyone who wants to understand the science behind the debate.

Xmas ESTC.jpgMichael Denton’s book Evolution: A Theory in Crisis was one of the earliest catalysts for the intelligent design movement. This year, he followed up with Evolution: Still a Theory in Crisis, where he reviews the scientific progress that has been made since his original groundbreaking work and shows that Darwinism is in no better shape. Just named one of the best books of the year in the London Spectator, this is not a book to miss!

Xmas FireMaker.jpegDenton had a busy year, also releasing the short monograph Fire-Maker: How Humans Were Designed to Harness Fire and Transform our Planet, and a documentary by the same name. In these, Denton focuses the fine-tuning argument on a specific topic — the use of fire, unique to humans. We look forward to a series of similar arguments from him in the future. For those interested in Denton’s overall argument, the Privileged Species documentary is a good place to start.

DD Xmas list.jpgNo list of ID books would be complete without Stephen Meyer’s New York Times bestseller Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origins of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design. If this book is on your Christmas shopping list this year, don’t forget to include the sequel, Debating Darwin’s Doubt: A Scientific Controversy That Can No Longer Be Denied, a series of responses to critics edited by Evolution News editor David Klinghoffer. The documentary The Information Enigma synthesizes the information side of Meyer’s argument with exclusive interviews and beautiful animation. And breaking news: Darwin’s Doubt will be available on December 20 in an audio version (Audio CD and Amazon Audible), as will Dr. Meyer’s earlier work, Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design (Audio CD and Amazon Audible)! You can pre-order now.

Xmas Signature.jpegFor the history buff in every family, historian and CSC Fellow Richard Weikart had two important books out this year. In Death of Humanity: And the Case for Life, he explores the devastating cultural consequences of a materialistic view of human life and culture. In Hitler’s Religion: The Twisted Beliefs that Drove the Third Reich, he carefully explores the beliefs that drove Adolf Hitler and comes to a perhaps surprising conclusion.

Xmas Soul.jpgBruce Buff’s ID-inspired thriller, The Soul of The Matter, while different from our regular offerings, is a great gift for any reader. Buff’s book is exciting, knowledgeable, and just plain fun.

Finally, and again something a little different: our friend Michael Medved’s new book, out this week, is The American Miracle: Divine Providence in the Rise of the Republic. A master storyteller, Medved argues for what he calls the “intelligent design of American history,” a “pattern of happy accidents” too incredible to attribute to chance.
