Here’s a fantastic video caught by two women out canoeing. One’s jaw drops. Clearly, they were not out seeking to have an encounter with a murmuration of starlings — for more on the science of that amazing phenomenon see the Illustra documentary Flight: The Genius of Birds.

Born in Santa Monica, California, he graduated from Brown University in 1987 with an A.B. magna cum laude in comparative literature and religious studies.
