Today on the Michael Medved Show, Paul Nelson Will Discuss Evidence of Design in Birds and Butterflies

Medved-Banner8.jpgIf you think people who champion intelligent design are all conservative Christians, think again. Stephen King surprised us the other day by making mention of his belief in "intelligent design." King, of course, is as outspokenly liberal as bestselling novelists come, and not easily stereotyped as a traditional religious believer. No, it's not clear how much or what he knows about the science of ID as we elaborate it here. But pointing to the wonders of nature he said, "Everything is sort of built in a way that to me suggests intelligent design." Is he right?

Today in the second hour of the Michael Medved Show, on the Science & Culture Update, Discovery Institute fellow and philosopher of biology Dr. Paul Nelson will talk with Michael about scientific evidence of design in living creatures, specifically butterflies and birds. That's 1 pm Pacific Time, 4 pm Eastern. Paul appears in a pair of beautiful and powerful documentaries about the evidence for intelligent design in nature: Flight and Metamorphosis, respectively about birds and butterflies. You'll be hearing more about Flight, which is brand new, in this space in coming weeks.

Interestingly, by the way, Stephen King joins other names among famous novelists who have either supported some version of ID or doubted Darwinism, from Vladimir Nabokov, to Kurt Vonnegut, to King's fellow bestselling supernatural novelist Dean Koontz. Koontz, I've told you, has a blurb on the dust jacket of Stephen Meyer's new book Darwin's Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design, saying "[Stephen] Meyer writes beautifully. He marshals complex information as well as any writer I've read."
