Premiering Today on YouTube, New Film Showcases C.S. Lewis's Unheeded Warnings on the Abuse of Science

A new short film premiering today on YouTube, The Magician's Twin, highlights C.S. Lewis's views on science, scientism and society. Lewis, the creator of Narnia, Screwtape, and Mere Christianity, warns us that modern science -- otherwise a good thing -- could be hijacked to attack faith, undermine ethics, and limit human freedom.

You only need to look around you to see how prophetic Lewis was.

  • "Darwin made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist," claims one scientist.
  • "It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while," says another.
  • The chief medical editor for NBC News argues that eliminating handicapped babies through abortion is "pro-science."
  • A biologist at the University of Texas contends that we need to reduce the human population by up to 90% in the name of biodiversity.

As The Magician's Twin reveals, Lewis has important things to tell us about the growing abuse of science, and he offers penetrating insights into some vitally important issues of our day, including evolution, intelligent design, bioengineering, moral relativism, and even the role of government.

"The Magician's Twin documentary is so important that I wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to access. That is why it's premiering for free on YouTube," says Dr. John West of Discovery Institute's Center for Science & Culture. West directed the documentary and is the editor of the recent book of the same name, which features essays about Lewis's views on these subjects from 10 Lewis scholars.

Anyone can watch the film right now for free at YouTube. You can also download a free chapter from the book that explores Lewis's views on intelligent design, here.

The Magician's Twin, the book and the film, are produced by the Center for Science & Culture at Discovery Institute.
