More than a half century ago, C.S. Lewis warned of how science — itself a very good thing, of course — nevertheless could be twisted to attack religion, undermine ethics, and curtail human freedom. In a provocative new half-hour documentary, The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis and the Case Against Scientism, leading Lewis scholars explore his prophetic warnings about the abuse of science and how Lewis’s concerns are increasingly relevant for us today.
Inspired by the book of the same name, The Magician’s Twin will premiere this Wednesday, November 14 on the NRB Network. The film subsequently will be released on YouTube during the week of November 19. You can watch the trailer for the film right now at YouTube.
Air times for The Magician’s Twin premiere on the NRB Network are as follows: Wednesday, November 14: 6:00 and 10:00 pm PST; 9:00 pm and 1:00 am (November 15) EST.
Does science disprove God? Can science solve all of our social problems? Should scientists try to evolve a superior race? How much surveillance of ordinary people by new technologies is acceptable? C.S. Lewis addressed all these vital questions, predicting the growing misuse of science that are witnessing today.
Experts featured in the documentary include Michael Aeschliman, author of C.S. Lewis and the Restitution of Man; Jay Richards, co-author of the New York Times bestseller Indivisible; Angus Menuge, author of Agents Under Fire; John West, editor of The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis on Science, Scientism, and Society; Victor Reppert, author of C.S. Lewis’s Dangerous Idea; and C. John Collins, author of Science and Faith: Friends or Foes?
The NRB Network is available on DIRECTV Channel 378, Sky Angel Channel 181, other cable and broadcast local affiliates, and online at the NRB Network website.
The Magician’s Twin: C.S. Lewis’s Case Against Scientism is the first part of a three-part series of documentaries that will document C.S. Lewis’s view on science and scientism. The next two parts, which will consider Lewis’s views on evolution and intelligent design, will be released during the first half of 2013.
